ROBERT BEATTY (formerly Three Legged Race)
STEVEN WARWICK (formerly Heatsick)
VALERIE MARTINO (formerly Unicorn Hard-On)
ROBERT BEATTY is a Lexington, Kentucky based artist and musician whose multi-disciplinary work in the fields of drawing, digital art, sculpture, video, graphic design, and sound use outmoded technology and emulation of obsolete techniques to yield organic and otherworldly results. Beatty has recorded experimental electronic music as Three Legged Race, is a member of noise band Hair Police, and has played with C. Spencer Yeh's Burning Star Core. In 2014 he released a collection of soundtracks composed to accompany a range of video work by innovative digital artist, Takeshi Murata. The debut Three Legged Race full length Persuasive Barrier was released on Editions Mego sub-label Spectrum Spools in 2013.
Now performing live under his given name, Beatty's constantly evolving aesthetic is realized via an elaborate network of salvaged electronics in combination with a volatile live mixing approach. Each performance and recording explores the repetition and decay of simple musical themes, collaging together new rhythmic and harmonic worlds with each tier of abstraction. Beatty's music evokes minimalist sci-fi soundtracks, clouded hypnotic landscapes, and primal proto-techno.
STEVEN WARWICK is an artist, musician, and writer based in Berlin. His new audio-visual mixtape Nadir was released via the delinear platform on the acclaimed label PAN.
Nadir fuses reflective poetics with diaristic snapshots and fragmented melodies recorded during a residency in LA. The release captures the tensions, unease and uncertainty in a contemporary setting. Live, Warwick presents a new show with visuals in which he reworks the tracks in real time for a club setting, in a similar manner to his previous Heatsick project: loops and rhythms are stretched and worked out on the dancefloor with focus on the human voice to dizzying and psychedelic effect.
VALERIE MARTINO is a distinctive and influential voice in American underground music. As Unicorn Hard-On, she was among the first artists in the noise scene to start seriously messing around with beats and she’s been carving that distinctive space 2wscsince 2003. Based in Providence, over the last 13 years, Martino has toured the US and Europe countless times and released music on labels such as Spectrum Spools, Hot Releases, and I Just Live Here.
