“Hors Pistes” initiates creative exchanges which allow young designers to discover traditional craftsmanship and craftsmen, to value their know-how by diversifying their application fields. These collaborative residences encourage the transmission of handicrafts between professionals, interrogate their heritage and future by proposing a reworking of the traditional production methods.

On the occasion of WantedDesign Brooklyn, Hors Pistes is proud to have been invited by the French Embassy in the United States via its Oui Design program, in collaboration with swissnex Boston New York Outpost and the Consulate General of Switzerland in New York.  A US premiere, this exhibition will showcase a selection of objects, images, and publications from the two previous Hors Pistes workshops held in Burkina Faso – Ouagadougou in 2013 and Banfora in 2014.

Marie Douel (*1988, France) is a product designer who graduated from ECAL (Lausanne, Switzerland) in 2012 after a diploma of upholstery-decoration at Ecole Boulle (Paris, France). Since 2009, she went numerous times to BurkinaFaso where she experienced different craft and industrial methods. She also worked in Singapore, India, London and New York before settling in Brussels.

Amandine David (*1988, France) was trained as a product designer and had several working experiences around the world - as she went to Burkina Faso, Ethiopia and Vietnam. She integrated in 2016 the Social Design Master at Design Academy Eindhoven in order to continue exploring means of communication in pluridisciplinary and multicultural design projects.
